NIC Quaterly Lecture - "Food Security in the Caribbean; Global effects and implications for a Regional Response.

The St. Lucia National Insurance Corporation in collaboration with the University of the West Indies School of Continuing Studies invite the public to a panel discussion in its continuing series of debates and discussions to heighten public awareness on matters of national importance.

The topic for this quarter is: - "Food Security in the Caribbean; Global effects and implications for a Regional Response".

The topic is of vital importance since it focuses on the availability of food, its safety, quality, storage, preparation and similar issues, critical in our changing environment.

It also makes the important link between health and agriculture, since we are told that we must eat what we grow - but we must know how to prepare what we grow in order that we can enhance and promote a healthy lifestyle in using the products that we grow locally.

The discussion takes place at the National Insurance Conference Center on Wednesday, June 28th at 7.00 p.m.


The Panelists are:­

  • Dr. Fitzroy Henry - Director, Caribbean Food and Nutrition Institute (CFNI) Jamaica
  • Dr. MKabi Walcott - Food Safety Officer/Bureau of Standards, St. Lucia
  • Mrs Merlene Severin - ChiefNutritionistlMinistry of Health, St. Lucia
  • Mr Martin Satney - Permanent Secretary/Ministry of Agriculture/St. Lucia

It will be an evening of important and wide ranging discussions on the issue of food safety and the public is encouraged to attend.
